This vehicle is exceptional, both in terms of its build quality and its appearance. Painted in the factory team’s livery of that era, the 1975 Volkswagen LT 2.4 D van tows a trailer carrying a replica of the Audi Quattro S1 that is extremely faithful to the original 1986 version. As the ultimate evolution of the Audi Quattro in Group B, the Sport S1 fascinated an entire generation with its impressive looks and aerodynamic features, which notably enabled Walter Röhrl to break the Pikes Peak hill climb record. As there were only 20 examples produced for homologation, surviving examples are extremely rare and enthusiasts of this exceptional model have sometimes taken it upon themselves to build replicas – which is the case with this car. According to its owner, it is based on a 1986 factory prototype that was damaged during testing and sold by Audi in England without an engine. It was subsequently rebuilt by specialist Jamie Small (who became renowned for his Group B replicas), while preserving as many of the original components as possible. By remaining as faithful as possible to the manufacturer’s specifications, the result is truly impressive. In particular, this car features a Kevlar bodywork, racing suspension, an original S2 5-cylinder turbo engine with a Motec ECU — with 600 hp measured on the dynamometer — a 6-speed dog-engagement transmission, a roll cage faithful to the original and Recaro seats with Sabelt harnesses.. . Complete with a file of invoices detailing the work carried out and parts purchased, this car was featured in demonstrations by several famous drivers such as Stig Blomqvist, Hannu Mikola, Bernard Darniche, Sébastien Loeb and Antony Beltoise. The car comes with a registration document certifying its identity as a road car. Only suitable for use on the track or closed roads, it represents a unique opportunity to own an Audi Quattro S1 close to its original condition, given that authentic examples are both extremely rare and financially out of reach.
