This Ferrari 512 BBi left the factory on 23 March 1983 and was delivered new in the United States before being imported into Germany in 1988. Two years later, it underwent various mechanical modifications to increase its performance. Carried out by Viktor Günther Motorsport in Cologne, the work included fitting bigger injection bodies, special camshafts, AP Racing brakes with perforated discs and a cooling radiator for the transmission oil. All this cost the tidy sum of 120,000 DM, and the car’s maximum power went up to 363bhp, a figure checked on the test bench.

On 23 July 2009, the car was bought by the Scuderia Auto Neuser from Eberlein Automobile, the Ferrari importer based at Kassel. Then reading 48,354km, the odometer has now reached 48,483km: the car has therefore been driven very little over the past 15 years, but Fritz Neuser nonetheless had it regularly maintained.

This 512 BBi has the two-tone paint scheme characteristic of the model, with the lower sections of the body finished in black to lighten its overall appearance. The paint and bodywork are satisfactory and the interior is equipped with seats which have been retrimmed in black leather and light grey cloth, making for an extremely elegant look. The dashboard is original and the equipment includes an Alpine radio.

 

This is therefore an interesting example, as the loss in power of the 512i compared with its predecessors is offset by the technical improvements made to it, whilst retaining the excellent handling of this first road-going Ferrari with a mid-mounted 12-cylinder engine.
