Originally supplied in France and no doubt sold by Charles Pozzi (from whom it still has a sticker), this car remained in the country until its Parisian owner (a Mr Rostagnat) sold it on 9 November 2002 to a renowned Italian specialist. At the time, it was registered 392 MKQ 75 and, amusingly, it still has a sticker on the windscreen for the National Federation of Retired Gendarmes!

It then continued its life in Germany, before joining the collection owned by Fritz Neuser, who was won over by its excellent condition. The bodywork has been restored with particular care, with well-aligned panels and high-quality red paintwork. The wheels and bumpers are in good condition, with no signs of accident damage. Inside, the upholstery has been retrimmed with black leather which appears to be a perfect match for the original specification, and specially-made carpets with a red prancing horse logo. The equipment fitted includes a top-of-the-range Pioneer audio system with Ferrari branding, and the odometer is reading 56,038km, undoubtedly the distance covered from new. The car will be sold with its owner’s manual.

Compared with the 365 GT4 BB which it succeeded, the 512 had a larger (4.9-litre) engine, which, although slightly less powerful, produced more torque. At the same time, some minor additions were made, such as the NACA ducts on the sills and a front spoiler. In 1981, fuel injection was introduced on the 512i, and the example presented here is a credit to this particularly quick and well-regarded model.
