This superb Porsche 2.7 RS was bought by its current owner at the exceptional sale by auction of the W Collection by Artcurial Motorcars in Monaco in 2024. A distinguished collector, Staffan Wittmark fell for this particularly interesting car, one of the very first Porsche 2.7 RS built. Close to its original condition, it has spent most of its life in Sweden, where it was imported in 1975 after being sold new at Ratingen, in Germany, through the Porsche garage Jacob Fleischhauer, in Cologne. It was originally supplied in ‘Grand Prix’ white with red wheels and seats finished in leatherette and Perlon velour (interior code 12); it had the options of sports seats (code 409), H3 long-range driving lamps (code 432), loudspeakers and an aerial (code 440), and three-point seat belts (code 549). It remains in this specification today.

It comes with its original wallet containing the owner’s manual and service book, with several stamps up to 1977, as well as the reference card for the keys. The car’s life in Sweden and its different owners can be retraced from a file of invoices. It may be noted that its third owner was Lars Widenborg, a well-known race car preparer and restorer, who probably competed in historic races with the car in the 1980s.

All these factors make this Porsche Carrera 2.7 RS exceptional and naturally attracted Staffan Wittmark when he came across the car at the Porsche garage in Haninge. Aware of the car’s history, he bought it and spent a considerable amount to keep the car running, as can be seen from a set of invoices for more than 20,000 €.

Today, this Porsche Carrera 2.7 RS displays a rare authenticity, with its slightly faded paint, long-range driving lamps, original red Fuchs wheels and its tool kit in the front compartment. The interior fittings are largely original, as are the door cards and dashboard. The seats appear to have been retrimmed, as does the steering wheel rim.

As soon as he bought the car, its current owner, a demanding enthusiast, sent it to Sampaio Automobiles near Le Mans for an extensive service, as can be seen from the last bill for more than 4,000 €. He also took care of registering the car in France before finally deciding to sell it, as he did not have enough use for it.

It is worth repeating that the Carrera 2.7 RS was designed to be homologated in Group 4 and therefore benefitted from several weight-saving measures, a 210bhp engine and aerodynamic features including the famous ‘ducktail’ spoiler at the rear. Its success exceeded its manufacturer’s expectations since the total of 500 examples required had been reached by the end of the 1972 Paris Motor Show, at which it was unveiled. Altogether, more than 1500 cars were built, and the model evolved in response to innovations and regulations, maintaining a tradition of ‘customer competition’ models to which few makes can lay claim. It is undoubtedly one of the reasons for Porsche's current success.

As the 74th 2.7 RS built, splendidly authentic and with a continuous and well-documented history, this Porsche 911 Carrera RS represents an exceptional opportunity to acquire an example which has retained the integrity of one of the most iconic Porsches in the company’s history.
