The Eurocup Mégane Trophy started in 2005 as part of the World Series by Renault, running Mégane cars which adopted the styling of the production RS II, but with extensive modifications. They had a tubular structure and a 320bhp V6 instead of the original 4-cylinder engine.

From 2009, the model evolved and took on the appearance of the Mégane RS III coupé. Still powered by a V6 engine, now uprated to 360bhp, this new competition version had a sophisticated body with numerous aerodynamic features such as splitters, spoilers, a diffuser and a huge rear wing. The doors were of the scissor-opening type, and a roof-mounted air intake fed air directly into the inlet manifold. Keenly followed by motorsport enthusiasts, the Eurocup Mégane Trophy was held on the most prestigious circuits in Europe; each race comprised two 40-minute heats, which were open to amateur drivers.

The car offered for sale is a display model which most likely has a chassis and running gear from a Mégane Trophy. The body, which is not to spec, is purely decorative and made from a material specific to the show car. The stripped-out interior reveals the car’s structural tubing and is reminiscent of the original model, but the dashboard is a dummy. Produced for display and presentation purposes, the car has no engine, but constitutes a superb example of the aerodynamic work carried out on the basis of a mass-produced model.
