Unregistered
- One-off car, presented at the 1993 Monaco Grand Prix
- Meticulous construction
- A witness to Renault’s experiments with electric power in competition
- No reserve
This car was designed on the basis of a Formula Campus single-seater with a Fior chassis. According to a letter dated 29 March 1994 from A. Moretti in the Research Department, it came about “thanks to the R&D Communications department and a small team of Renault’s staff, who stepped up to produce it in record time – just six weeks – for it to be presented during the 1993 Monaco Grand Prix.”
It was built using components developed in the framework of the Elégie programme for vehicle electrification, itself part of the Eureka initiative, launched in 1985 with the aim of strengthening European competitiveness. Again according to the letter from Moretti, the car was subsequently much in demand for various presentations. However, lacking the necessary resources to continue maintaining it, in March 1994 Moretti officially handed over the car to Renault’s Heritage department, run at the time by Jean Robert, “so that it would not fall into decay and cease to exist.” Before doing so, his department “did what was needed, as it had when building it, to make it presentable and available for use.”
Saved from destruction, this prototype is complete and apparently in good condition, but has not run since joining the collection. It bears witness to the experiments Renault carried out in the field of electric power, including in competition. A premonition of things to come ...
