Exuma, a fabulous 50-metre yacht, left the shipyard in 2010, and for a round-the-world trip exploring the most remote places on land, her owner wanted an amphibious vehicle on board. It was developed with Milan-based engineer Maurizio Zanisi, director of ZAM S.A.S, who had successfully transformed an Iveco Daily 4x4 into an amphibious prototype. In an interview, the yacht's captain explains the changes: “Zanisi's first prototype was quite basic compared to Exuma's, which is fitted with a much more powerful and sophisticated engine. As well as the “cosmetic” requirements of a yacht tender, the waterjet had to be shortened to fit the vehicle. The bucket for reversing and directing the jet was designed by Zanisi at my request. We also added a bow thruster, lifting points to allow it to be craned on board, and the weight and dimensions of the vehicle overall were designed to fit Exuma's garage”. This exceptional prototype has been out of service for around 3 years, has just over 12,000km on the clock, and has been put back on the road after an oil change and a battery replacement. It should, however, undergo a more thorough general overhaul as a matter of principle. This original and well-designed Iveco Terramare, uses modern, high-performance mechanical components, making it one of the most accomplished amphibious vehicles of its generation.
