Following in the footsteps of Meyers Manx, the “dune buggy” craze born on the beaches of California spread like wildfire, encouraged by the carefree hippie atmosphere of the 1960s. Several smaller makers took up the challenge, and the buggy by Auto Mirage, a brand based in Bologna, Italy, was one of the most successful, thanks to its simple, minimalist shape. This one, with just 34,000 km on the clock, in its beautiful burgundy metal colour, has been fully restored while retaining a nice hint of its origins with its patinated interior. It has the VW Beetle's 1,200 cm3 4-cylinder engine, and some other mechanical components, such as the rear lights and speedometer. Leather bucket seats provide good support for both occupants, who will enjoy the agility of this lightweight little machine and its performance over rough terrain. As well the fun and the amused reactions of onlookers, this buggy offers a real trip back in time that won’t fail to attract a future buyer.
