Bought at auction in 2018, this interesting 2CV Type A caught the attention of its current owner as it had undergone a full, chassis-up restoration over six years. The collector who commissioned the restoration made clear that this major undertaking had been carried out with respect for the original specification. The car had been completely stripped down, and the chassis and running gear restored. The 375 cc engine received the same attention. The body was restored with the utmost care taken over both the metalwork and paint. All the body seals were replaced and the correct wheels for the model repainted in the proper colour. The upholstery was also restored to the correct specification for the model year, as were the accessories. We noted one particularly rare accessory: the visor protecting the speedometer from reflections from the sun. The long bonnet, like the accessories, is correct for the model. More recent tail lights have been added to the original set-up for safety reasons, but are held in place with magnets and can be stored in the boot when the car is displayed. In 2019, the brakes and ignition were overhauled and the carburettor reconditioned. Just as good underneath as on top, and having been driven little since its high-quality restoration, this Type A, which is characteristic of the first versions with their easily recognizable ‘ripple bonnet’, is sure to endear itself to the public every time you take it out.
