As its factory production card confirms, this Mercedes 190 SL was delivered new in New York on 27 October 1959. Finished in black (040) with red leather upholstery (1088) and matching carpets, it had an optional Becker Mexico radio and five whitewall tyres. Imported into Austria in 1998, it was bought by its current owner in May 2002; he then had a full, high-quality restoration carried out from 2004–2005, as can be seen from the photographs. The car was then used regularly, only during the summer, and in particular for the celebrated Ennstal Classic rally. It was maintained by a specialist mechanic who chose in 2008 to replace the Solex carburettors by Webers, which were easier to tune. In 2024, further work was done on the car, including new paint, still in its original colour. The interior is also still in red leather, with a very attractive patina. With its whitewall tyres and Becker Europa radio, this 190 SL remains in its original specification, making it a particularly desirable example, not to mention its third seat. The care taken over its restoration and its maintenance up to the present day promise its new owner the opportunity to drive an enviable and reliable car.
