The ‘17EG2’ is the most sought-after GTi model among enthusiasts, as it is the first generation fitted with the 1.6-litre 110 hp engine, although equipped with a 5-speed gearbox and addressing the teething problems of the ‘17EG1’.

This particular example is one of them and has a clear history. As evidenced by its purchase order and invoice, its first owner traded in her Mini Cooper at the Volkswagen dealership in Annemasse to purchase this fine GTi, opting for the white body colour with a fabric interior. Delivered in March 1982, it was meticulously cared for by the family until 2010, driven exclusively by its owner – as verified by her grandson, who was forbidden from driving it! Always kept in a dry place and used as a second car, it now has a mileage of 67,500 km on the clock, as evidenced by a file of invoices dating back to when it was new. Remarkably, the paintwork remains original (with only minor stone chips which have been touched up), whilst the upholstery is in an admirable well-preserved condition. The current owner, a true car enthusiast, this superb GTi was completely serviced in 2025, including the replacement of the timing belt and Michelin tyres. It would be very difficult to find a comparable example of the 1st generation on the market, in such original condition and so well documented – don’t let this opportunity slip through your fingers.
