- The most desirable bodywork by Drauz
- Only 2,910 miles since its restoration
- Matching numbers, serviced by Valentin Kaiser
- Appraised at €200,000, superb colour combination
The authenticity certificate from the factory confirms that this beautiful Convertible D was produced on 10 June 1959. It is still fitted with its original 60 hp 1600cc Type 616/1 engine; only the Solex carburettors were replaced with Weber carburettors, which offer better performance. This 356 was meticulously restored in 2013 and imported from California in 2017; it has travelled only 2,900 miles since its restoration. The bodywork is in excellent condition and the body adjustments are perfect; only a small and barely visible chip on the lower part of one wing will need to be redone. Combined with the black Alpaca soft top, the red leather upholstery matches perfectly with the Bali Blue colour of the bodywork. Built by Drauz, the roadster’s bodywork is of excellent quality and this roadster perfectly combines the Speedster’s irresistible minimalist charm with the comfort of a more upmarket convertible. In fact, it is the rarest and most sought-after model among enthusiasts, as the soft top is very easy to operate and features roll-down windows, unlike those on the Speedster. A file of invoices is included with this roadster and it has been serviced for several years by the excellent former Sonauto workshop manager, Valentin Kaiser. It is worth noting that the camshaft timing gear is slightly noisy when idling. This rare and fun version of the 356 is certainly the most desirable and will delight its owner in both looks and performance.
