- One of the most sought-after 911 models
- Supplied new in Italy, same owner since 2012
- Attractively presented in Bahama Yellow, original Recaro seats
- No reserve
This Porsche 911 S 2.2 Targa left the factory in 1970 and was registered in Rome on 9 January 1971; it then remained in Italy for more than 40 years before it was bought by its current owner in 2012 from Sportwagen-Service at Speisen-Elversberg in Germany. It has had its Recaro seats and Fuchs wheels from new, and around 2004, its previous owner carried out a restoration of the engine and body, which was completely repainted. Since it was bought, it has mainly been used to take part in regularity rallies in Germany (hence the timing equipment in the very well-preserved interior), and has been regularly maintained by the specialist Stentenbach Classics, at Grossmaischeid.
Combining the 179 bhp produced by its air-cooled flat-six and the light weight of the early 911s, this model is one of the most sought-after classic Porsches, as well as being particularly rare, with 729 examples of the 911 S Targa built in 1970 and 788 in 1971. Although Porsche is unable to supply a certificate of authenticity (the archives for this period having suffered from flooding in 2006), our research confirmed that this car’s engine and transmission types and numbers do indeed correspond to a 1971 model 911 S Targa.
With its known history in Italy and its removable roof panel, this lovely Bahama Yellow 911 S 2.2 Targa represents a rare opportunity to acquire one of the most desirable versions of the most famous Porsche in the world.
