La pratique de Kiswanson est façonnée par un vocabulaire sculptural marqué par l'hybridation de l'héritage culturel du Moyen-Orient et du modernisme occidental, de l'art et de l'artisanat. D'un processus intense de métissage émergent des œuvres énigmatiques, incitant à une tension incessante entre leurs deux pôles. C'est pourquoi leur signification finale reste constamment en suspens.

Contact Sheet trouve sa genèse dans des photographies datant des années 1970 qui documentent la vie familiale de l'artiste. La broderie des costumes traditionnels présents dans les photographies devient le sujet central de l'œuvre. Jouant sur un changement d'échelle, du microscopique au monumental, Tarik Kiswanson déleste les motifs de leurs références folkloriques. Détachée de tout contexte originel, l'essence brute de son imagerie ouvre la voie à une multitude d'interprétations. Quasi-abstraits dès lors, les détails grossis des broderies illustrent la circulation de certaines formes primaires à travers différentes époques et régions géographiques, offrant ainsi une progression tacite du subjectif et du personnel vers l'objectif.

Kiswanson’s practice is shaped by a sculptural vocabu- lary inscribed with the hybridization of Middle Eastern cultural heritage and Western modernism, of art and the artisanal. From an intense process of interbreeding enigmatic works emerge, inciting ceaseless tension between their two poles. In light of this, its final signification remains in constant suspense.

Contact Sheet’s genesis lies in photographs dating from the 1970s document- ing the family life of the artist. The embroidery of traditional costumes present in the photographs becomes the central subject of the work. Playing with a shift of scale, from the microscopic to the monumental, Tarik Kiswan- son discharges the motifs from their folkloric references. Removed of all original contexts, the raw essence of his imagery opens up a multitude of interpretations. Quasi-abstract from this point on, the magnified details of the embroideries illustrate the circulation of certain primary forms across different époques and geographical regions, thus providing an unspoken pro- gression from the subjective and personal to the objective.
