According to the original sales invoice, this car was delivered new on 21 May 1973 as a Pantera GTS to Bordese, the Ferrari and Maserati dealer in Turin. It was equipped with a Ford 351ci (5.7-litre) engine, air-conditioning, electric windows, an anti-theft device and metallic clear-coat paint. In 1990, it was fitted with a GT5 kit supplied by Sport Cars GmbH, the De Tomaso importer in Stuttgart, and installed by Hundertmark Karrosserie in Darmstadt. Approved by De Tomaso, this operation involved changes to the suspension and brakes, as well as fitting the wheels and body kit specific to the GT5. The Pantera's appearance was much more aggressive as a result, in keeping with its high performance.
Today, it has attractive black paintwork, while the interior trimmed in red leather has been restored to a high standard. The dashboard has been well preserved, with its instruments, switches and chrome trim surrounding a small leather-rimmed steering wheel. The odometer is reading 91,958km, and a Sony radio has been fitted.
This De Tomaso Pantera comes with a file of invoices including those for the modifications made to it, amounting to a total of more than 30,000DM, excluding the bill from the body shop at the time. It was thoroughly overhauled by the specialist Berlinetta Motors at a cost of nearly 10,000 euros in 2010. It is a fine example of one of the most powerful sports cars of its time, which combines the beauty of Tom Tjaarda’s design and the strength of an American V8.
