Founded in 1957 by the managing director of the ACO, the “Young Driver Criterium” was a mobile initiative designed to educate children about driving and road safety regulations. In 1962, the six ‘Jeudi’ cars were replaced by 13 René Bonnet cars, which ensured the success of the Criterium for many years. This particular model is one of them, purchased from an ACO member by its current owner in 1978. The latter was a friend of Jean Rondeau (who had won the criterium in 1956!), for whom he transported his racing cars ; the Sarthe driver offered the owner to restore this René Bonnet example before gifting it to his children as a Christmas present in 1978, which was done in the Rondeau workshops. This explains why the car features an ‘Otis’ livery, as Otis was the sponsor of the Sarthe team at the time. This exceptional collector's item is fitted with a Bernard W18 A engine, which will need to be restarted. A brake pedal was added during the restoration to make the car easier to handle. Once exhibited at the 24 Hours of Le Mans Museum, this René Bonnet is naturally eligible for the Little Big Mans and will bring joy to collectors and their children alike.
