Unveiled at the 2005 Frankfurt Motor Show, this Clio III RS Concept Car foreshadowed the production model, which went on sale in mid-2006. Finished in a beautiful shade of pearlescent red, this Renault Sport-badged model differed from the standard Clio III in several respects, including its wider wings, huge air intake with a mesh grille, rear diffuser, twin exhausts and 18in wheels.

The interior was also specially kitted out, with a red dashboard housing instruments with white dials, matching red trim and elegant front and rear bucket seats upholstered in red and grey leather. A panoramic glass roof filled the interior with light, but was not carried over to the production RS, on account of its weight and reduced rigidity in comparison with a steel roof.

Under the bonnet lurked a 2.0-litre 16-valve 4-cylinder engine developing 200bhp, mated to a six-speed gearbox, while the car was equipped with independent steering axis front suspension to curb torque steer.

This concept car entered the collection at the end of 2006, where it has remained on static display ever since. Heralding the future Clio III RS, this unique Renault Sport concept car, in excellent original condition, cannot be registered for road use, but is a very carefully and successfully executed prototype.
