The result of a collaboration between the Italian coachbuilders Frua and Ghia, the Floride was introduced in 1959, supported by a launch campaign featuring Brigitte Bardot, which contributed to the glamorous image conjured up by its sleek styling and exotic name. Available as a coupé and a convertible, it had the same layout and 845cc engine as the Dauphine, but developed slightly more power.
The Floride from the collection is presented in a lovely shade of turquoise which is specific to it and is not original, with superb white seats with blue piping and matching door cards. The dashboard is most attractive and the odometer is reading 45,721km. Above all, however, this car has the distinction of having been used in 1992 for the opening of the Euro Disney theme park at Marne-la-Vallée. As can be seen in the leaflets from the time, it was displayed outdoors and was used by visitors who could have their photograph taken on the car. To withstand these demanding conditions, its body was specially treated against corrosion with a particularly resistant type of paint, while the bonnet and boot lid were strengthened with a steel frame to stop them buckling under the weight of the actors. This treatment has ensured that the car has been well preserved cosmetically. The mechanics, for which some ancillaries are missing, will need reconditioning, after which this pretty Floride, complete with its hardtop, will once again enjoy being taken for drives in the sun, in the carefree spirit of the years of its birth.
