Comment:

The son of Shiva and Parvati, Kartikeya, also known as Skanda or Murugan, is the god of war and commander of the divine armies. In southern India, particularly in Tamil Nadu, he is worshipped as Murugan and ranks among the region’s most popular deities. He is often depicted mounted on his vāhana, the peacock, which tramples a cobra, as in the present example, and accompanied by his two consorts, Valli and Devasena.
