Comment:

A popular deity in Tamil Nadu, Madurai Veeran is venerated as a guardian deity by rural communities in southern India. He is often depicted on horseback, as here, armed with a sword and accompanied by his two consorts, Bommi and Vellaiyammal. A shrine dedicated to him stands near the eastern gateway of the Minakshi Temple in Madurai.
