The Arabic inscription decorating this icon is attributed to Saint Isaac the Syrian, also known as Isaac of Nineveh, who was born around 640 in present-day Qatar and died around 700 in Khuzestan, in the region between Iraq and Iran. He is renowned for his writings on asceticism.
