- Tribute of the winning 1970 Tour de Corse berlinetta
- Stamped service logbook, 2nd hand, owned by Bernard Darniche
- Only 29,800 km, exact replica of the original racing livery
Bernard Darniche needs no introduction; he’s one of the most successful French rally drivers with 87 international victories, two European and three French championship titles. Above all, he holds the record for the most wins in the challenging and highly contested Tour de Corse, claiming a total of seven victories (one with an Alpine and the others with a Lancia Stratos and a Fiat 131 Abarth. As a young Alpine factory Driver in 1970, Bernard truly made his mark at the Tour de Corse, alongside his co-driver and childhood friend Bernard Demange. He dominated by winning every single stage in the first major event of the year with the Alpine team,, attacking relentlessly until the end and beating Jean-Claude Andruet by four minutes. Nine-time world champion Sebastien Loeb was the only other rally driver to achieve the same result. Sadly, the day of his victory coincided with the death of General de Gaulle and consequently overshadowed the event’s television media coverage at the time. It’s worth mentioning that Bernard Darniche was part of the trio of drivers (alongside Jean-Pierre Nicolas and Jean Claude Therier) who brought Alpine its first and only Constructors’ World Championship title in the newly formed WRC championship in 1973.
Sold new by the Alpine centre in Clermont Ferrand and later serviced by the Alpine centre in Boulogne-Billancourt, this particular Alpine is a second-hand car acquired by Bernard Darniche’s company. At the time of our inspection, it shows a mileage of 29,800 km on the odometer and is presented in almost-new condition. The original Glacier White bodywork was wrapped in the iconic metallic blue, a process carried out with great care by the excellent Vincent Naveau from the Renaissance workshop in Saint Germain de la Grange. Door handles and roof gutter trims were wrapped in chrome-effect film in order to add to its originality. The 1970 Tour de Corse racing livery was recreated in meticulous details by specialist Gilbert Sinsollier from Deco Auto Course, based in Les Angles (near Avignon in the Gard region).
Lightweight, powerful and accurate, this unique berlinetta is the worthy heir to the A110 of the 1970 era. Beautifully built and finished, it deserves a place in the collection of a true Alpine enthusiast.
