- Unique model built at the request of the Sultan of Brunei
- Documented by Registro Lamborghini and Valentino Balboni
- Exceptional combination of performance and luxury
- Remarkably preserved, 10,400 km from new
The Lamborghini LM002 is a car like no other. Originally designed as a military vehicle for the US Army, it could be considered as the Italian version of the famous American Hummer. Fitted with a 5-litre V12 engine derived from the Countach, its 450 hp enables the LM002 to reach over 200 km/h despite its impressive size! It is also a rare machine, with 301 examples produced which included 241 units with carburettor.
This particular example is even more incredible thanks to its history and its special bodywork. Commissioned new by the Sultan of Brunei, this car was modified (with the manufacturer’s approval) by Autocostruzioni de Salvatore Diomante based in Nichelino, Italy. As a former workshop manager at Bizzarrini, Diomante launched his own company in 1968, manufacturing special parts and models for clients who are looking for exclusive creations. In this instance, he covered the pick-up truck with a raised roof to convert it into a closed cab with windows, with a luxurious interior featuring additional bench seats, entertainment equipment such as television and audio / DVD player, as well as comfort features such as the electric sunroof, electric windows and air conditioning.
The second owner of this exclusive vehicle was none other than Bernd Pischetsrieder, former Director at BMW and Volkswagen, as well as the instigator of Rolls-Royce’s acquisition by the German brand. In April 2004, Pischetsrieder sent the car to Italy in order to get it inspected by Registro Lamborghini in Sant’Agata Bolognese. The association issued a “Certificato di Iscrizione” detailing the car’s condition and equipment, quoting: “Unique prototype manufactured at the buyer’s request. Expanded bodywork to accommodate a greater number of occupants. Special interior with high-quality leather.”
The previous January, this special Lamborghini LM002 was inspected in Manchester by Valentino Balboni, technical inspector at the Lamborghini Restoration Centre who noted no particular defects. In Pischetsrieder’s hands, a meticulous service was carried out at Auto Koenig in Anzig, as evidenced by several invoices.
This car was then offered for sale by Sportwagen Engel in Andernach and exported to Sweden in 2012, where its third owner used it for demonstrations before selling it to its current owner based in Uppsala. It recently had a service carried out and a complete carburettor refurbishment by EB Auto; Relevant invoices are included in the file.
This car now has a mileage of 10,400 km and is presented in excellent original condition. With its period grey paint, its luxurious leather and wood interior is remarkably well-preserved and includes all its special features. In addition to the four initial seats in the main interior, the rear compartment can accommodate at least another four people.
This car bears witness to the eccentricity of which certain projects could come into fruition in the 1980s and 1990s. Therefore, this vehicle is unique and constitutes an historic milestone, which also offers an exceptional combination of performance, livability, equipment and luxury.
