- Only 300 built
- Air-conditioning and power steering
- Recent mechanical and body restoration
This Maserati Indy is a rare and interesting 4.9-litre version, of which only 300 were produced. Finished in "Argento Auteuil" with a black leather interior, it had the best specification available at the time, with air-conditioning, power steering and tinted electric windows. The car presented has benn produced on 30 june 1972 and here is one of the few examples sold new in the US (New York).
Its current owner bought the car at Le Mans Classic in 2014; while the upholstery had already been restored, as a demanding enthusiast, he had the engine and gearbox rebuilt, the air-conditioning and electrical system overhauled and the fuel tanks cleaned by the Garage Dessonet. The body meanwhile was stripped back to bare metal, treated and carefully repainted, with five successively sanded coats. All the body seals were replaced and new stainless-steel bumpers custom-made. The wooden steering wheel and gear knob were revarnished. Some 50,000 euros were spent on the work, which can be seen in a file of photographs. A modern retro-style radio has been fitted, and the tyres were recently replaced. Since its restoration, the car has covered about 1200 miles; as the most powerful version, producing 320bhp, with the highest level of equipment and in a flattering combination of colours, it will be hard to find a more desirable Indy.
