1963 Cadillac Series 62 Convertible
Sold new in the United States, this sumptuous convertible left the General Motors plant in 1963 and was imported into Germany in 1988. It was owned by several collectors before joining the collection of Guido Hommel, who was fascinated by its design and its powerful (325bhp) 6.4-litre V8. The body is very sound and has been repainted in the past. The upholstery meanwhile has been restored in red leather, with carpets to match, contrasting with the dark red dashboard. The car has a plethora of standard equipment and in addition to the optional period radio, a radio/cassette player has been ingeniously fitted in the glove box so as not to spoil the overall appearance of the superb dashboard. The electric hood is in good condition and works, as do the four windows. With 41,841 miles showing when we inspected it, this ‘land yacht’ has been maintained by the collection's own mechanic so that it is ready to be driven. It was appraised in March 2024. While the influence of the most extravagant model years remained, 1963 marked a turning point at Cadillac, with cleaner, tauter styling, the hallmark of a resolutely modern form of luxury, which makes this lovely example so interesting.
