The Mondial Cabriolet holds a truly unique place in Ferrari’s history: launched in 1983, it was Ferrari’s first production convertible to offer four seats. Even more remarkable, it remains the only production Ferrari model to combine a four-seater convertible design with a mid-rear-engined layout.
Initially introduced in the Quattrovalvole version and then as the 3.2, the Mondial Cabriolet experienced its final and most significant evolution in 1989 with the Mondial T. This latest generation represented a genuine technological breakthrough and served as a direct precursor to the Ferrari 348.
The letter ‘T’ refers to the new powertrain layout: the V8 is now mounted longitudinally, whilst the five-speed gearbox is mounted transversely, the two forming a ‘T’. This architectural layout (later adopted on the 348) notably lowers the centre of gravity and represents a major evolution compared with previous Mondial models.
Its naturally aspirated 3,405 cc V8 engine (with four valves per cylinder) develops 300 hp at 7,200 rpm. Combined with the traditional Ferrari five-speed manual gearbox, it enables the Mondial T Cabriolet to reach 255 km/h. Adding to this performance are power steering, ABS and controlled suspension, making this latest evolution of the Mondial a significantly more modern and enjoyable Ferrari to drive than its predecessors.
However, it still retains its unique character: the sound of a naturally aspirated Ferrari V8 engine fitted behind its occupants, a manual gearbox, four seats and the chance to enjoy this engine with the roof down.
This particular example was first registered on the 27th September 1990 in Rome by the renowned Ferrari dealership SA.MO.CAR S.p.A. It currently has just 58,600 km on the clock and still has its original Roman number plates, a particularly charming reminder of its Italian history. Its specification is equally impressive. Its bodywork is finished in the stunning Giallo Modena, an extremely rare colour for a Mondial T Cabriolet. According to information provided, only twelve examples are believed to have been delivered in this colour, making this car exceptionally unusual.
Its history is also one its main selling points. The service logbook has been regularly stamped and documents the car’s servicing by SA.MO.CAR, who serviced it from when it was first registered until 2021. It was then sold that latter year in Bolzano in the far north of Italy and entrusted to RAM Autoracing, who carried out the timing belt replacement, as evidenced by the invoice.
In July 2026, the Ferrari was purchased by its most recent owner, Mrs Nicla Casagrande, who took it for its Italian roadworthiness test (‘revisione’).
In September 2026, it was taken to the official Ferrari service centre (Maranello Service), leading to an invoice totaling over €4,000 which included (amongst other things) the replacement of the timing belt and both fuel pumps.
The air-conditioning system was also completely overhauled recently, including work on the compressor totaling almost €2,800, as evidenced by invoices. The tyres have only travelled around 1,000 km, while the leather and carpets were thoroughly cleaned in August 2026.
According to information provided by the owner, this Mondial T has never been involved in an accident and remains in its original specification. It will be supplied with its extensive history file and invoices, its service logbook, a spare set of keys, its tool kit and its Ferrari leather luggage set.
Combining the most sophisticated engine in the Mondial series with a particularly rare colour scheme, this example benefits above all from a documented Roman provenance dating back to its origins, as well as significant and very recent restoration work. This is a rare opportunity to acquire the final evolution of a car that will go down in history as the first four-seater open-top production Ferrari and the only four-seater mid-rear-engined convertible ever produced by the manufacturer.
