- One of 105 cars built
- Engine tuned by Conrero in period
- Superb design by Zagato
- Delivered new in France
This extremely rare 2600 Zagato was supplied new by the importer SOFAR in Paris at the end of 1965 to Raymond Sauveterre, from Montpellier; it was white with a black interior. In 1966, soon after taking delivery, Sauveterre sent the car to the most renowned engine tuner at the time, the famous workshop run by Conrero. Copies of the bills for this work are in the car’s file and a report from a dyno test carried out by Conrero shows peak power of 221.8bhp at 6500rpm, a considerable increase on the 165bhp claimed by Alfa Romeo. In 1983, the car was sold to its second owner, Jean-Pierre Esquirol, who lived in the Paris area; it was registered at the time as 2600 YC 95 (the previous number being 547 LW 34). In 2007, it passed into the ownership of a M. Volant in Belgium. It was at the end of 2019 that its current owner succeeded in acquiring it.
Finished today in red, with an interior which appears to be original, this car is especially interesting, not only on account of its rarity and authenticity, but also because it is the only SZ known to have been prepared by Conrero in period (with supporting documentation). It comes with its front and rear bumpers and a spare air intake and headlamp surrounds.
The 2600 SZ is highly regarded by collectors today as it combines an elegant and original design from a prestigious coachbuilder and exceptional rarity. Thanks to its unique mechanical specification and its history in France, this is one of the most interesting examples.
Please note that contrary to what is written in the paper version of the catalogue, the car is sold without a title.
