13cm (5in) longer than the standard saloon, the 380 SEL was a true top-of-the-range model which favoured the space given to rear-seat passengers, while its V8 engine with automatic transmission delivered power and flexibility.

This example was produced for export to South Africa, but it is not known whether the car was finally delivered there, and by 1986, it was registered in France. In ‘Classic White’ with a dark blue cloth interior, it has several desirable options: a sunroof, ABS, radio, heat-absorbing glass, automatic climate control, electric windows, electric front and rear seats and reading lights for the rear-seat passengers ... This flagship model is in simply exceptional original condition: it has covered only 12,882 miles from new, and the body, interior and engine compartment are in remarkable condition. It comes with its service instructions, dealer list and radio manual, while in the boot, the hazard warning triangle and the jack, which still has its original instruction sticker, are still to be found. The BF Goodrich tyres are in almost new condition. To find an SEL from this period with such low mileage and in this condition is virtually impossible today, so make the most of it !
