« I am afraid with the state of farming in England at present – there is no possible chance of any unskilled man getting £5 a month or anything like it. I tried to get a nephew of mine taken on a farm for nothing, to work for his keep, but this was impossible then and I had to pay £1 per week for him until he went to Canada. »
