In addition to the intrinsic exclusivity of this BMW 850i xDrive Gran Coupe painted by the artist Jeff Koons, it has the distinction of having an original mileage of only 29 km! It is truly brand new and belongs to its first owner, a French private collector who acquired it from the BMW dealership that he had just sold after managing it for several decades… a clear demonstration of his enduring passion!

This is one of 99 examples with the bodywork designed by Jeff Koons, who was given complete freedom by the manufacturer. It’s a work of art – for the road, as BMW’s Chairman of the Board Oliver Zipse emphasised: “it should not only be exhibited in museums as a coveted collector’s item, but also stand out on the road, like a true BMW”. This was unveiled for the first time in Italy at the Villa d’Este Concours d’Elegance in October 2021.

Koons’ design combines eleven colours including blue, black, silver and yellow; it also features pop culture themes. The craftsmanship is outstanding and of extremely high quality, requiring seven layers of paint applied over 285 hours. As for the interior and with high-quality materials, the bold red and blue tones recall both the colours of comic book superheroes and BMW Motorsport. Some design aspects (such as the rear end) reference the BMW GT3 created by Koons in 2010 in the “Art Cars” series which raced in the 24 Hours of Le Mans.

“Something becomes unique when it is able to convey meaning in a truly special way – and that’s what this car does” says the artist. Sold with its COC, cover and a set of accessories, this exceptional creation is among very few delivered in Europe. The VAT and environmental tax were paid in France by its French private owner. Considered to be a mode of transportation as well as a work of art, this car is truly one of a kind. It would be equally at home on the lawn of a concours d’elegance, in a modern living room or carving its way up a mountain road. Enough to make more than one person dream!

Impact on VAT :

As the vehicle has been driven less than 6,000 kilometers, it can be considered “as new” for VAT purposes in certain European countries. Please contact your local tax authorities for confirmation prior to purchase. For a French buyer, a VAT of 20% will be charged on the hammer price and the premium.
