During the Greco-Roman period, it was common for portraits to display an unfinished appearance in areas such as the hair, the back of the head, and even the ears. These parts were completed in stucco, a lighter and more easily modeled material. This cost-effective technique made it possible to add details such as hairstyles, diadems, or crowns, which were often painted to achieve a more lifelike effect.
