Following the exciting sale of a stunning Saint Laurent Rive Gauche chiffon piece with a printed black and white chequer pattern that Romy Schneider wore in Claude Sautet’s 1972 film “César and Rosalie”, in which she starred opposite Yves Montand, it is Brigitte Bardot’s turn to open the doors to her movie wardrobe. When Artcurial’s Hermès Vintage & Fashion Arts department auctioned Romy Schneider’s outfit at the last 60’s & 70’s Fashion and Accessories sale in February, bids soared, and it fetched more than €2,000.
Film costumes will be back in the spotlight at the next Online Only Summer Fashion Arts sale from 5 to 11 July 2019. The sale will feature a dress worn by Brigitte Bardot in the role of Arabelle in her last full length feature, the 1973 film by Nina Companeez, The Edifying and Joyous Story of Colinot
The film is set in the 14th century, at the end of the middle ages. In the film, lothario Colinot Trousse-Chemise (played by Francis Huster) sets off in pursuit of his fiancée, who has been kidnapped by three robbers. He has many encounters along the way and comes across Arabelle, who is accompanied by an entourage of poets, musicians and minstrels… She is wearing a crown of flowers and is dressed in a long midnight blue, velvet dress decorated with pearl motifs. These flowers and arabesques are located around the neck, on the puff sleeves and all the way down this period costume and its lining.
Included in the lot with Arabelle’s dress will be two black and white prints of filming, so here is an opportunity to really be immersed in this love story.
A number of handbags will also be presented amongst the 200 lots on offer: Balenciaga’s “Giant Town”, in several colours, Kenzo’s Kaliforniaé bag and the famous Fendi Baguette will be joined by a Louis Vuitton trolley case in Monogram fabric and natural leather.
Every year, Yves Saint Laurent would send greetings cards in the form of little posters of a painting featuring the word “LOVE”. Some of these posters will also be auctioned.
