« There was once a lawyer named Paul »

There was once a lawyer named Paul, like my father Pablo and my brother Paulo. His full name was Paul Lombard, a Marseillais with the authentic accent! As for me, I had a pointed French accent, but thanks to my father I was very much a southerner.

There was once a lawyer named Paul, like my father Pablo and my brother Paulo. His full name was Paul Lombard, a Marseillais with the authentic accent! As for me, I had a pointed French accent, but thanks to my father I was very much a southerner.

He was from Marseilles. I became Marseillaise when I lived near the town hall in the rue de la Loge, so we were neighbours. We had to meet and that is exactly what happened. In 1961, he took me under his wing and I never let him go! Like every "good" lawyer he struggled, and struggled for me using all his knowledge and charm when my father left us forever. It was a long and complicated succession, full of surprises, but Pablo Picasso’s family could not be like anyone else’s it could not be anything else. When Paul and I separated, I gave him reminders to look at so that he could remember Maya, whom he defended as best he could for years.
