While the Hammershøi, the master of Danish painting exhibition at the Musée Jacquemart-André takes off at top speed, it’s Artcurial’s turn to present a collection of more than 300 paintings from the “Golden Age” of Danish painting. This collection, which brings together the greatest Danish artists of the period, including Eckersberg and Hammershoi, was featured in an important exhibition at the Piscine de Roubaix museum in 2014. It embodies the country’s effervescent pictorial eclecticism during the 19th century, in which history painting exists side by side with touchingly poetic scenes of interiors and plein air oil on paper landscapes.

The creations of the greatest Scandinavian designers will also be celebrated, after a very promising year in 2018, which included the sale of a rare example of the “Grasshopper” chair by Juhl, for € 319,000. Scandinavian design’s key players will take center stage on 16th April, during Artcurial’s first auction of the year of this specialty. An exceptional Poul Henningsen piano, an emblematic square daybed PK80 by Poul Kjaerholm and a U-56 armchair aka Elizabeth Chair by IB Kofod-Larsen are just some of the exceptional lots offered at auction. The auction will also offer a rare set of furniture from Finnish creator Alvar Aalto.
