The section dedicated to Contemporary African Art will honour modern artists that have a following amongst private collectors and institutions. A large piece by Pilipili (estimate MAD 130,000/190,000), the emblematic artist from the Congo’s famous arts centre Le Hangar, whose dreamlike representations of nature have recently caused a stir at auction in Paris, will come under the hammer. An exceptional tower, “Seattle” by the model maker whose Afro-futuristic dreams are realised in the form of imaginary pop towns, will also be presented. The emerging African art scene will also be presented, featuring Aboudia and his mixed media piece, in card and collage, with an attractive estimate of MAD 330,000 – 550,000. In order to pay tribute to particularly active female artists who are highly sought after in the contemporary African art market, the sale includes two textile pieces by the Angolan artist Ana Silva, as well as works by Adjaratou Ouédraogo, Lizette Chirrine and Joana Chomali.
