In partnership with the Hiquily Committee, the exhibition brings together over 50 works from private collections and is structured around five main themes: Hiquily et les arts océaniens, Le mouvement et l’équilibre, La femme par le corps, Les bijoux and Le mobilier.

The theme Hiquily et les arts océaniens creates a dialogue between the French artist’s sculptures, monumental works, furniture pieces, jewelry, paintings, Chinese ink drawings and artifacts from the Sepik region and the Kanak people, both cultures that were particularly meaningful to Hiquily. This section highlights the deep connection he maintained with tribal art and culture.

In Le mouvement et l’équilibre, the focus is on celebrating Hiquily’s preferred material — metal — and the dynamic energy of movement in his work. Through his weathervanes, fountains, and mechanisms, whether simple or intricate, the sculptor expresses a pursuit of formal freedom, inspired by great metalworking pioneers such as Julio González and Alexander Calder.

The third theme, La femme par le Corps, explores one of Hiquily’s recurring subjects: mothers, goddesses and stylized female silhouettes, often depicted with simple, elemental gestures. These figures belong to a tradition that is at the same time archaic and futuristic.

This event marks over twenty years of collaboration between Artcurial and the Hiquily Committee. Since 2014, several exhibitions have paid tribute to the artist, notably at the Donjon de Vez, as well as through the display of his monumental weathervanes in Paris and Monaco.

This exhibition celebrates not only the centenary of a major artist but also a free and poetic vision of material, body, and movement.
