La marque Excalibur incarne depuis les années 1960 le renouveau du style automobile des années folles. Inspirées des légendaires Mercedes SSK, ses créations allient élégance rétro et mécanique américaine fiable. Le Phaeton Série IV de 1981 figure parmi les modèles les plus emblématiques de la marque. Ce spectaculaire cabriolet quatre places séduit par ses proportions majestueuses et ses chromes à profusion. Son long capot, ses ailes détachées et ses échappements latéraux évoquent les grands cabriolets d’avant-guerre. Animé par un V8 Chevrolet de 5,0 litres, il offre une conduite souple et confortable. Un modèle rare, et en la replaçant dans son contexte des années 80, elle peut en devenir un symbole du luxe et de l’exubérance automobile américaine.
La particularité de cette Excalibur est le fait que son propriétaire actuel, français établi aux Etats-Unis, l’a acquise neuve en 1981 ! Architecte à New York au début des années 80, il avait été séduit par l’exubérance de ce modèle. Lorsqu’en 1992, il revient s’établir en France, dans la copropriété très prisée de Port-la-Galère, il emmène la voiture avec lui et la conserve pour se déplacer de temps en temps. La voiture est présentée aujourd’hui, après avoir bénéficié de très nombreux travaux. Les freins ont été complètement refaits, ainsi que le radiateur, le refroidissement, la carburation et bien entendu vidange, filtres, chez un spécialiste discret et précis du sud de la France…
Il s’agit d’une automobile d’une prestance époustouflante, tellement représentative de cette époque des années 80 où le panache était de mise !

The current owner of this Excalibur, a French architect living in the United States at the time, purchased the car new in 1981. Based in New York during the early 1980s, he was immediately drawn to the model’s extravagant style. When he returned to France in 1992 to settle in the prestigious seaside community of Port-la-Galère, he brought the Excalibur with him and used sparingly.
The car is now offered following extensive recent mechanical recommissioning. The braking system has been completely overhauled, while the radiator, cooling system and carburation have all been refurbished. Fluid and filter changes, have been carried out by a highly respected specialist in the South of France.
A motor car of truly breathtaking presence, this Excalibur perfectly captures the spirit of an era when style, confidence and panache were celebrated without restraint.
