This car is one of the 42 ‘production’ DS 21 Cabriolets built by Chapron in 1967, with four separate headlamps and using the green LHM fluid (including five sold in Belgium). It left Chapron’s workshops on 28 April 1967 and was finished in ‘Vert Forêt’ with a black leather interior. In 1994, it was bought by the firm Retromobile in London, a DS specialist run by Simon Lynes, who sent it to Newman & Jones (also in London) for a complete restoration. The subsequent MoT report in 1996 mentions a distance recorded of 12,047km. This attractive Cabriolet then changed hands four times: in 1997 to Michèle Janssens in Belgium, in 2003 to Mark Cooper in England, in February 2009 to DTR Sports Cars in England, and then in April 2009 to Kai Desinger from the Garage du Pont in Berlin. Desinger asked the firm Werk-Zwo-Classic in Radebeul, Germany to carry out a complete restoration, with the body repainted in black and red leather upholstery.

At the time, Thierry Dehaeck was looking for a DS 21 Cabriolet with the four-headlamp front end, but had been unable to find an example in good condition. It was then that he discovered the existence of several DS 21 Cabriolets at the Garage du Pont in Berlin. He went there on 12 December 2012 and was immediately smitten by this magnificent example with 37,531km on the clock. On the same occasion, he also noticed a DS 21 Cabriolet with fuel injection, which he bought shortly afterwards, ultimately creating a remarkable collection of three DS 21 Cabriolets with different specifications.

Sold with several documents (the build sheet and complete file prepared by Nöelle Chapron, including its certificate, FIVA ID card, bills and numerous photographs) and in superb condition, the Cabriolet offered here is a particularly desirable version which is sure to make heads turn as it drives past.
