2021 Ferrari 812 GTS

Ever since the company’s beginnings, Ferrari’s open-top models have had a special place in Maranello’s history. From the first V12-engined spiders and cabriolets in the 1950s to the California and Daytona Spyders and then the numerous open versions of the company’s berlinettas, Ferrari has almost always cultivated this remarkable alliance of grand touring, first-rate performance and the pleasure of driving in the open air. The 812 GTS, unveiled in 2019, fits perfectly into this tradition. The relationship is all the more symbolic because the 812 GTS represents the most spectacular expression of this philosophy. It combines the qualities of a grand tourer able to cover long distances and the performance of a genuine supercar, while allowing its occupants to enjoy in the open air what undoubtedly represents its most fascinating feature: its naturally-aspirated V12.

Mounted behind the front axle, the 6496cc V12 develops its impressive maximum power of 800bhp at 8500rpm and peak torque of 718Nm. Mated to an F1-style seven-speed dual-clutch transmission, it propels the 812 GTS from 0-100km/h in less than 3 seconds and on to a top speed of over 340km/h.

But these remarkable figures only tell a part of the story. Able to rev to more than 8000rpm without resorting to forced induction, the V12 offers an instant throttle response and produces a sound which takes on an added dimension when the roof is open. Ferrari worked specifically moreover on the acoustics of the GTS to preserve the V12’s characteristic harmony.

Its folding hard top roof plays a major part in its versatility. It opens or closes electrically in just 14 seconds and can be operated at speeds of up to 45km/h. With the roof closed, the 812 GTS retains all the comfort and protection of a big GT; with it open, it becomes a genuine V12 spider, without giving up the exceptional performance of the 812 Superfast on which it is based.

The 812 GTS presented here has an especially clear history as it was supplied new on 22 September 2021 by Charles Pozzi in Levallois-Perret, Ferrari's historic dealer, to its first and current owner. He paid particular attention to its specification and options when he ordered it. The body was finished in the very elegant special colour Grigio GTS, together with an interior trimmed in Cuoio 4609 leather and with Daytona-style upholstery. This elegant combination is especially well suited to the GT nature of the 812 GTS. It contrasts with the wealth of carbon-fibre parts fitted, which accentuate the sporting aspect of the car. In particular, carbon-fibre is used for the dashboard, centre console, sill plates, spoiler and rear diffuser, as well as various parts of the front and rear bumpers. The car’s external appearance is rounded off by Scuderia Ferrari shields on the wings, 20in diamond-cut forged wheels, aluminium-coloured brake callipers and titanium exhaust tailpipes.

The interior is also particularly well equipped, with electrically adjustable seats, a Hi-Fi system, Apple CarPlay and the desirable passenger display screen, which enables the passenger to follow different items of information relating to the car's performance and how it is being driven. Last but not least, this example is fitted with the front suspension lift, which is particularly useful when the car is used regularly to drive over ramps and speed bumps and when entering parking garages. This 812 GTS therefore offers a combination of several especially valuable qualities: a single-owner car sold new in France and supplied by Charles Pozzi, only 3,500km from new, an elegant specification in Grigio GTS with a Cuoio interior and a wealth of carbon-fibre options. It is important to note that no VAT (sales tax) or emissions penalty is payable in France on this 812 GTS!

It is a brilliant embodiment of a tradition deeply rooted in Ferrari’s history: that of producing great open-top cars able to combine travel, elegance and extremely high performance. With its naturally-aspirated 800bhp V12, folding roof and sophisticated specification, the 812 GTS is one of the most spectacular modern expressions of this tradition.
