Cette élégante Mercedes 220 S berline avait retenu l’attention de Guido Hommel car il s’agit d’une rare version disposant d’un large toit ouvrant. Achetée en 2017 auprès d’une société allemande qui la détenait depuis 2011, l’élégante berline méritait de nombreux soins qui furent aussitôt entrepris par notre collectionneur au sein de son propre atelier. Ainsi les soubassements ont été entièrement refaits puis traités, et le moteur a bénéficié d’une restauration complète. Tous les éléments nécessaires à son bon fonctionnement furent également remplacés ou refaits. La carrosserie présente une sobre et très élégante peinture bleu nuit anciennement refaite et de qualité. Les joints de carrosserie ont été remplacés et les chromes sont en superbe état. A bord de l’opulent habitacle, on retrouve une sellerie en drap et skaï gris de belle facture. Une fois derrière le volant, on remarque la présence d’un autoradio Becker Europa optionnel, le levier de commande de boîte de vitesses manuelle au volant et un compteur qui affiche 9 857 km. Les plus curieux découvriront le manuel d’utilisation d’époque dans la boîte à gants. Les Mercedes 220 de cette génération sont très appréciées pour leur homogénéité, notamment dû à leur agréable moteur 6 cylindres en ligne ; et si l’élégance que lui confère sa teinte ne suffisait pas à vous convaincre, l’agrément du large toit découvrable de cet exemplaire achèvera de séduire les plus exigeants.

1959 Mercedes-Benz 220 S Saloon with sunroof

This elegant Mercedes 220 S saloon caught Guido Hommel’s attention as it is a rare version fitted with a large sunroof. When he bought it in 2017 from a German company that had owned it since 2011, the stylish saloon was in need of numerous items of work, which were immediately carried out by our client in his own workshop. The underbody was completely rebuilt and then treated, and the engine was completely restored. All the components needed to ensure it ran well were also replaced or rebuilt. The bodywork has an understated and highly elegant midnight blue finish, repainted in the past to a high standard. All the body seals have been replaced and the chromework is in superb condition. Inside the luxurious interior, the car features high-quality grey cloth and leatherette upholstery. Once behind the wheel, you will notice the optional Becker Europa radio, the column-mounted lever for the manual gearbox and the odometer reading 9857km. The inquisitive will discover the original owner’s manual in the glove box. Mercedes 220s of this generation are greatly appreciated for their consistent overall quality, thanks in particular to their agreeable in-line six-cylinder engines, and if the elegance of its colour is not enough to convince you, then the pleasure of the large sunroof fitted to this example is sure to win over the most demanding enthusiasts.
