1967 Porsche 911 S short wheelbase
This rare Porsche 911 S is one of 1,823 examples produced in 1967 and is part of the very first generation of this model; it features the short wheelbase (2,210 mm instead of 2,268 and later 2,271 mm), which makes it more responsive on twisty roads, as attested by several rally drivers including the renowned Vic Elford. As stated in its Porsche certificate, it was sold new on the 10th February 1967 by Hahn garage in Stuttgart; it was painted ‘Bahamagelb’ (code 6605) and featured several rare options such as a Webasto auxiliary heater, a sunroof, a 100-litre fuel tank and an outside temperature gauge, as well as a car radio with an external aerial. It is still fitted with its original Type 901/02 six-cylinder engine and Type 901/02 gearbox, as verified by Porsche Deutschland.
Thanks to an extensive file of photographic evidence, this rare 1967 911 S has had a full restoration carried out by a German Porsche specialist with in-depth knowledge of the model; he took great care to preserve its originality and integrity by using original parts. The result is impressive and an inspection of the car on the lift demonstrated how carefully the restoration was carried out and the fact it has hardly been driven since the work was completed. Sold as part of an estate, it recently benefited from a full service at the German specialist Stentenbach Classic and can now be driven just like it was on the first day, enabling its new owner to enjoy the authentic driving experience of this short, lightweight version.
Combining the purity of a ‘short-wheelbase’ S version, its original engine, rare equipment, a splendid original paintwork and an exceptional quality of restoration, this rare 911 S is one of the most sought-after examples of a model that propelled Porsche onto the international motorsport stage and laid the foundations for a design that has continued to evolve to this day.
