With the C6, Citroën revived a tradition which had contributed to some of the greatest chapters in its history, that of building large, prestigious French saloons. Following on from the DS, CX and XM, the C6 combined a strong stylistic identity, sophisticated technology and that incomparable sense of comfort that has always been one of the company’s hallmarks. Long, low and lithe, the C6 had an undeniable presence. Its long bonnet, flowing roofline, frameless doors and concave rear screen gave it a shape that was both elegant and prestigious. It was as much at home in front of the palaces of the French Republic as in business districts. The C6 was quickly taken up in the highest echelons of the State and the world of business. Jacques Chirac, a great fan of Citroën’s prestigious models and a loyal user of the CX Prestige, officially inaugurated the C6 during the parade on 14 July 2005. French Presidents, ministers, senior officials and business leaders found this big French saloon a car particularly well suited to official trips: it was roomy and quiet, with styling that was authoritative but never succumbed to ostentation.
This vocation takes on its full meaning once you are inside the car. The Hydractive hydropneumatic suspension gives the C6 a ride quality which remains one of its most remarkable characteristics. The generous amount of room, the care taken over its soundproofing and the comfort of its seats together create an atmosphere particularly conducive to long journeys. The version presented here even boasts separate rear seats with electric adjustment, creating a true ‘Business Class’ environment.
In its V6 3.0 HDi (240) version, the C6 has an engine perfectly in keeping with its status. Its 3-litre V6 develops 240bhp and 450Nm of torque, and is mated to a six-speed automatic transmission. Its power is delivered smoothly and authoritatively, offering the acceleration and ease of driving expected of a luxury saloon designed to cover long distances at speed. A ‘Sport’ mode can also be manually selected for the suspension and gearbox. And when the car reaches 110km/h, the rear spoiler rises automatically, providing an unmatched level of roadholding.
The C6 we are presenting is exceptional for several reasons: its history, provenance and condition.
Its history and provenance are unique, as this C6 was supplied new to André Trigano. It was, moreover, the last car he bought new. André Trigano (1925-2024) was a visionary French entrepreneur who had a major impact on the tourism sector as the head of the Compagnie internationale André Trigano. In addition to his success in business, he also had a distinguished political career, both locally and nationally, notably as Mayor of Pamiers and the member of the National Assembly for Ariège. Alongside all these activities, he always had a huge love of cars, at first as a racing and rally driver in the 1950s, competing notably in the Tour de France Auto. Throughout his life, he gathered in his property near Pamiers an impressive collection of Citroëns and nearly 180 cars which Artcurial Motorcars successfully sold at auction in 2020. Throughout his career, he was at pains to buy new cars of all makes in order to satisfy all the dealers in the town of which he was mayor.
Quite naturally therefore, it was from the Citroën dealer in Pamiers that he bought this luxurious C6 in December 2012; it was the top model in the range and the most powerful with its V6 HDi producing 240bhp. He used it exclusively for journeys in Paris, between his home and office. For this reason, the car has today covered only 42,500km from new; needless to say, it is in virtually new condition. As he was driven by his chauffeur, Trigano chose the optional ‘Lounge Pack’ (familiarly known as the ‘Presidential Pack’ in France) with separate, electrically adjustable and heated rear seats, to travel in greater comfort. The interior is in impressive condition and the superb Havana brown leather upholstery and carpets have not had the time to acquire a patina. The car has been serviced in accordance with the intervals recommended by the manufacturer. The car was bought directly from the estate by its current owner, a member of Artcurial’s staff who was close to André Trigano and who had just sold his CX GTi Turbo 2! Although it had done only 36,000km, he sent it to Citroën for a major service, with instructions to return the car in like-new condition (there is a bill for 5566€ from Citroën Paris 11 dated 13 March this year). We were unable to find another C6 for sale today with such low mileage, in such excellent, near-new condition and running order and, of course, with a history like this! It will be supplied to its new owner with the original wallet containing all its manuals and the service book, as well as a comprehensive file with bills and various handwritten documents.
The C6 stands as Citroën’s last flagship, and this example provides a rare opportunity to acquire the best the French car industry had to offer, in near-new condition. In this powerful V6 3.0 HDi (240) version, it brilliantly embodies the French art of travel, marrying precise handling and the unique sensation of flying over the road, in unrivalled comfort.
The car belongs to an associate of the auction house.
