Seul un S barré sur le haut des portes distingue extérieurement l'XK150 S des autres versions. Cette discrétion apparente abrite pourtant une mécanique nettement plus pointue, délivrant 250cv SAE dans la version 3.4L grâce à la fameuse culasse " straight port ", alimentée par trois SU HD8. Seuls 846 roadsters 3.4S conduite à gauche seront produits et celui que nous présentons est l’un d’eux. Vendu neuf le 30 septembre 1958 à un habitant d’Hollywood en Californie, il était à l’origine « Costwold blue » avec intérieur bleu ciel et capote assortie. Collectionneur exigeant, son actuel propriétaire l’a déniché en 2015 chez Thiesen en Allemagne, après une recherche active. La voiture avait été restaurée dans son actuelle configuration, et, chose importante, elle était toujours équipée de son moteur 3.4S d’origine, ainsi que de la boîte avec overdrive. En 2019, 4 jantes neuves, chaussées de pneus neufs furent montées en même temps qu’une révision générale effectuée au célèbre Atelier Harper. C’est ce spécialiste renommé qui s’est chargé de la réfection complète du moteur en 2024 et à l’occasion le système de freinage a été refait, avec adoption d’étriers plus performants par sécurité. Les trains roulants furent révisés et réglés à la même occasion et le total des travaux avoisine les 42 000€. L’essai réalisé a donné toute satisfaction et le rodage moteur sera à achever. Rare, performant et recherché, ce beau roadster mérite de rejoindre une collection sélective.

Only an “S” badge on top of the doors distinguishes the XK150 S from other versions externally. Although, this apparent distinction conceals a significantly more sophisticated engine, producing 250 hp SAE in the 3.4 L version thanks to the renowned “straight port” cylinder head, powered by three SU HD8 carburettors. Only 846 left-hand drive 3.4S roadster examples were produced and this particular example is one of them. Sold new on the 30th September 1958 to a resident of Hollywood (California), it was originally in Costwold blue colour with a sky-blue interior and matching soft top.
As a discerning collector, its current owner discovered it in 2015 at Thiesen in Germany after actively searching for one. The car was restored to its current configuration and crucially, still retained its original 3.4S engine and overdrive gearbox. In 2019, four new wheels with new tyres were fitted, along with a complete overhaul carried out at the renowned Harper workshop. This respected specialist undertook a full engine rebuild in 2024, as well as the braking system which was redone (with the adoption of higher-performance callipers for safety purposes). The suspension and running gear were also redone and adjusted at the same time. The total cost of this work is approximately €42,000. The test drive proved entirely satisfactory, with the engine running-in period still to be completed. Rare, high-performing and highly sought-after, this beautiful roadster deserves a place in a select collection.
