Pour célébrer en 2023 les 30 ans de la Twingo, Renault a prévu plusieurs opérations, dont la réalisation de quelques showcars sur la base de Twingo converties à la traction électrique, grâce au système "rétrofit" mis au point par la société R-Fit. En remplacement de leur 4-cylindres thermique mais en gardant leur boîte de vitesses, ces voitures ont reçu un moteur électrique, des batteries et toutes les commandes inhérentes à ce type de fonctionnement. Il s'agit toutefois de prototypes qui ont fait l'objet d'une réception à titre isolé et qui ne peuvent aucunement être immatriculable pour la route.

 

La présente Twingo fait partie de ces showcars spéciaux et elle a été réalisée en s'inspirant de la culture hip-hop de la Côte Ouest des États-Unis, un mouvement provocateur auquel répond l'appellation "Gangsta crew" de la voiture. A l'extérieur, elle marie une teinte gris irisé à des touches or et des jantes de la même couleur, avec un insigne Twingo en caractères gothiques incrustés de brillants. L'habitacle – tableau de bord, contreportes, volant, console... – est tendu d'un superbe cuir rouge et l'assise des sièges est en tissu beige clair avec des boutons en forme de losanges rouges. Un toit ouvrant en toile orange complète cet ensemble extrêmement spectaculaire. Avec l'avantage d'un fonctionnement "zéro émission", cette Twingo prototype est sans doute une des plus exclusives jamais réalisées avec un souci des détails impressionnant.

To celebrate the 30th anniversary of the Twingo in 2023, Renault planned several operations, including the creation of a number of show cars based on Twingos converted to run on electric power, using the EV kit developed by R-Fit. These kept the original gearbox, but in place of the four-cylinder petrol engine, they were fitted with an electric motor, batteries and all the controls necessary for a set-up of this type. They are, however, prototypes which were granted individual vehicle approval and cannot in any way be registered for road use by a new owner.

 

This Twingo is one of these special show cars and was inspired by the hip-hop culture of the West Coast of the United States, a provocative movement echoed in the ‘Gangsta crew’ name given to the car. Externally, it combines iridescent grey paintwork with gold accents and wheels, and a Twingo badge in Gothic characters inlaid with diamonds. The interior – the dashboard, door cards, steering wheel and console – is trimmed in a superb red leather, with light beige cloth for the seat cushions and diamond-shaped red buttons. An orange fabric sunroof adds the final touch to this absolutely spectacular car. With the advantage of running as a zero-emission vehicle, this Twingo prototype is undoubtedly one of the most exclusive models produced, with impressive attention to detail.
