Icône indissociable du paysage automobile français des années 60 à 90, première Renault de tourisme à traction avant, la R4 inaugurait un hayon arrière, des suspensions à grand débattement et une excellente capacité de chargement. En 2021, pour célébrer les 60 ans du modèle, le constructeur en a fait modifier cinq exemplaires en voiture électrique.

Il a choisi des versions emblématiques qui ont été entièrement restaurées par les équipes de la Collection, avant d'être envoyées chez EV Europe, spécialiste hollandais qui s'est chargé de la conversion, avec remplacement du moteur thermique par un moteur électrique et installation de batteries. Le moteur est relié directement à la boîte de vitesses, elle-même bloquée en troisième, un inverseur électrique permettant la marche arrière. Un écran a été ajouté sur la gauche du tableau de bord pour les informations spécifiques à la traction électrique. Avec une puissance d'une trentaine de chevaux, la voiture dispose d'une autonomie de 100 km environ.

La présente Renault 4 est recouverte d'un film "covering" de couleur blanche, avec toit rayé, sous lequel elle a conservé sa belle teinte vert pomme qui apparaît sur les parties intérieures. Elle a été équipée d'une calandre plus ancienne et d'une sellerie en cuir noir de belle facture. Le compteur affiche moins de 1 000 km, ce qui correspond sans doute à la distance parcourue depuis sa transformation. La voiture est immatriculable uniquement au Pays-Bas. Le nouveau propriétaire aura le choix de conserver le "covering" ou de le déposer pour laisser apparaître la couleur verte et, dans les deux cas, il bénéficiera d'une Renault 4 en très bel état offrant la douceur d'utilisation d'une voiture électrique.

A legend that was an inseparable part of the French automotive scene from the 1960s to the 1990s, Renault’s first front-wheel drive car, the Renault 4, introduced a rear tailgate, long-travel suspension and an excellent load capacity. In 2021, to celebrate the model’s 60th anniversary, the manufacturer had five cars converted to electric power.

It chose versions symbolising the model, which were completely restored by the staff at the Collection before being sent to EV Europe, a Dutch specialist which carried out the conversion, replacing the petrol engine by an electric motor and installing the batteries. The motor is directly connected to the gearbox, which is locked in third, with an electrical inverter providing reverse gear. A screen has been added on the left-hand side of the dashboard to display the information specific to the electric powertrain. The car produces about 30bhp and has a range of approximately 100km.

 

This particular Renault 4 is covered in a protective film in white, with a striped roof, beneath which it has kept its attractive apple green paintwork, which is visible inside the car. It has been fitted with an older radiator grille and high-quality black leather upholstery. The odometer is reading less than 1000km, which doubtless corresponds to the distance it has covered since being converted. The car can only be registered in the Netherlands. Its new owner will have the choice of keeping the protective film or of removing it to reveal the green paintwork, but in either case they will be able to enjoy a Renault 4 in excellent condition with the smooth drive of an electric car.
