En 1963, Honda, constructeur confirmé de motos performantes, aborda la construction automobile en proposant un coupé et un cabriolet de dimension minimale propulsés par un moteur à quatre cylindres en ligne de 530 cm3, emprunté à la gamme motos. À la S500 à transmission par chaînes succédèrent la S600 en 1964, puis en 1966 la S800 dont le moteur porté à 791 cm3 délivrait la belle puissance de 70 ch à plus de 8 000 tr/min, régime inédit pour une routière dans les années 1960. Sur cette dernière, un pont arrière classique remplaçait les chaînes. Dotée d'un tempérament essentiellement sportif et d'un comportement dynamique sain, cette petite bombe unique en son genre marqua son époque, tant en coupé qu'en cabriolet.

L’actuel propriétaire de cette superbe S800 l’a acquise lors du Salon Epoquauto à Lyon en tombant littéralement sous le charme de cette petite japonaise. Ce galeriste et spécialiste reconnu de la peinture flamande et hollandaise du XVe au XVIIe siècle, passionné d’automobiles et collectionneur de Lamborghini, voulait un petit cabriolet pour en profiter l’été dans les rues de Paris. Il vente avec passion « la vivacité et le côté ludique de ce petit bolide, si amusant à conduire avec ce moteur de moto qui monte dans les tours dans une sonorité ennivrante ! »

La circulation parisienne devenant trop compliquée, il décide de s’en séparer à contre-cœur « pour qu’un autre amateur puisse en profiter sur les routes tropéziennes » nous a-t-il confié.

Depuis six ans qu’il la possède, la voiture est entretenue chez Toni Auto à côté de Paris, mécanicien émérite aussi à l’aise pour entretenir les Lamborghini les plus prestigieuses que cette petite S800 si charmante. De couleur rouge, intérieur noir, elle se trouve donc en très bon état et mérite vivement de trouver un(e) nouveau(elle) passionné(e) qui la fera rouler sur des routes dégagées et si possible sinueuses et ensoleillées !

In 1963 and as a proven manufacturer of high-performance motorcycles, Honda entered the automobile industry by offering a coupe and a convertible of minimal dimensions powered by a 530 cc inline four-cylinder engine derived from its motorcycle range.

The chain-driven S500 was succeeded by the S600 in 1964 and then by the S800 in 1966. The engine of the latter was increased to 791 cc and delivered an impressive 70 hp at over 8,000 rpm, rev range unheard-of for a road car in the 1960s. This time, a conventional rear axle replaced the chains. With its fundamentally sporty character and dynamic handling, this unique little bombshell left a lasting mark on its era, both as a coupe and a convertible.

 

The current owner of this superb S800 acquired it at the Epoquauto Show in Lyon, after literally falling in love with this little Japanese car. This gallery owner and renowned specialist in Flemish and Dutch painting (between 15th and 17th centuries), as well as a car enthusiast and Lamborghini collector, wanted a small convertible to drive in the streets of Paris in the summer. He enthusiastically praises: “the liveliness and playfulness of this little car, so fun to drive with its motorcycle engine revving and its exhilarating sound!”

As the traffic in Paris became too problematic, he reluctantly decided to part with it “so that another enthusiast can enjoy it on the roads of Saint-Tropez”, he told us.

During his six years of ownership, the car was serviced by Toni Auto near Paris, a highly skilled mechanic equally adept at servicing the most prestigious Lamborghini models as he is with this charming little S800. Finished in red with a black interior, it is in very good condition and definitely deserves to find a new owner who will enjoy driving it on open roads and preferably, on winding and sunny ones!
