C’est de l’esprit fertile du peintre officiel des 24 Heures du Mans, François Bruère, que sont nées ces deux créations qui rendent hommage à la célèbre course mexicaine « Carrera Panamericana ». Entre 1950 et 1954, les plus grands pilotes s’y sont illustrés avant qu’elle ne soit interdite, jugée trop dangereuse, avant une renaissance en 1987 (et même une victoire d’un membre de notre équipe, Frédéric Stoesser, en 2007 !). Si cette Cadillac de 1958 n’a donc pas pu prendre part à cette épreuve à la fin des années 50, sa décoration a été faite dans l’esprit de l’époque. Remise en état en conservant certains éléments d’origine, la voiture fut repeinte chez Provost Automobiles au Mans, puis la décoration faite à la main. Cette fière Cadillac a ensuite pu être admirée avec ses peintures de guerre lors d’une exposition au Mondial de l’Automobile à Paris, en 2018. Nous avons noté que le numéro de série sur la plaque constructeur et sur la carte grise désigne par erreur une version Sedan de Ville. Toujours dans cet état d’esprit, l’Harley Davidson, qui était déjà immatriculée dans la Sarthe en 1987, a bénéficié d’une remise en état accompagnée d’une décoration telle qu’aurait pu recevoir à l’époque une moto d’escorte de la « Pan-Am ». Les deux véhicules sont roulants, mais n’ont que peu roulé ces dernières années ; ils constituent une paire unique, acquise en 2020 par leur actuel propriétaire, qui fera le bonheur des collectionneurs et illuminera les expositions auxquelles ils prendront part.

It was from the fruitful imagination of François Bruère, the official painter of the 24 Hours of Le Mans, that these two creations were born as a tribute to the famous Mexican race, the ‘Carrera Panamericana’. Between 1950 and 1954, the greatest racing drivers distinguished themselves there before the race was banned (deemed too dangerous), prior to its revival in 1987 (and even a victory by one of our team members, Frédéric Stoesser, in 2007!). Even though this 1958 Cadillac did not take part in the race in the late 1950s, its livery was inspired by the spirit of that era. Restored whilst retaining certain original features, the car was repainted at Provost Automobiles in Le Mans and then hand-painted. This mighty Cadillac was subsequently admired in its wartime livery at an exhibition at the Paris Motor Show in 2018. It is worth mentioning that the serial number on the manufacturer’s plate and the vehicle registration document incorrectly identifies it as a Sedan de Ville version. In the same spirit, the Harley-Davidson (which was already registered in the Sarthe region in 1987) was restored and decorated in the style that a ‘Pan-Am’ escort motorcycle might have received at the time. Both vehicles are roadworthy but haven't been driven much in recent years; acquired in 2020 by their current owner, they make a unique pair that will delight collectors while adding a touch of brilliance to any exhibition they feature in.
