Jean Nepomucène fut béatifié en 1721, puis canonisé par le pape Benoît XIII en 1729, comme martyr du secret de la confession. Son culte et les vénérations du futur Saint s’étaient déjà établis en Bohème et surtout à Prague avant cette date officielle.
