La colonne de Phocas, dite Columna Phocatis, a été élevée dans le Forum Romain au début du VIIe siècle en hommage à l'empereur byzantin Phocas. Elle s'y trouve toujours aujourd'hui.

Cette grande réduction en marbre giallo antico rappelle la production d'objets liés au Grand Tour. Une colonne datant également du XIXe siècle et aux dimensions comparable à la nôtre fut présentée en vente chez Sotheby’s Londres, le 4 décembre 2019, lot 27.
