Jean David Nkot, né en 1989 à Douala au Cameroun où il vit et travaille, développe un art profondément engagé autour des questions de migration, d’exploitation des ressources et de mémoire collective. Formé à l’Institut de Formation Artistique de Mbalmayo puis à l’Institut des Beaux-Arts de Foumban, l’artiste construit une pratique picturale singulière mêlant figuration et éléments cartographiques. Ses toiles, composées de cartes routières, timbres, enveloppes ou fragments de correspondances, évoquent les trajectoires humaines façonnées par les flux migratoires et économiques contemporains.

À travers des portraits puissants et silencieux, Jean David Nkot interroge l’indifférence face à la précarité des populations déplacées, tout en révélant les conséquences sociales et environnementales du capitalisme mondialisé. Depuis 2020, son travail se concentre notamment sur les vies invisibles qui dépendent de l’exploitation des matières premières africaines comme le cacao, coton ou minerais.

Exposé à Paris, Londres, Miami ou encore New York, Jean David Nkot s’impose aujourd’hui comme l’une des voix majeures de la scène artistique contemporaine africaine.

Jean David Nkot, born in 1989 in Douala, Cameroon, where he lives and works, creates deeply socially engaged art that explores issues of migration, resource exploitation, and collective memory. Trained at the Mbalmayo Institute of Artistic Training and later at the Foumban Institute of Fine Arts, the artist has developed a unique pictorial practice that blends figurative art with cartographic elements. His canvases, composed of road maps, stamps, envelopes, or fragments of correspondence, evoke human trajectories shaped by contemporary migratory and economic flows.

Through powerful and silent portraits, Jean David Nkot questions the indifference toward the precariousness of displaced populations, while revealing the social and environmental consequences of globalized capitalism. Since 2020, his work has focused in particular on the invisible lives that depend on the exploitation of African raw materials such as cocoa, cotton, and minerals.

Having exhibited in Paris, London, Miami, and New York, Jean David Nkot has established himself as one of the leading voices in the contemporary African art scene.
